The flowers are dead, now spring can come, 2017
One-channel-Videoinstallation, 3:24 Min, Loop
The poem The Last Supper is from The Wings of My Heavy Heart, Poetry of Arab Women Poets by Nudjum al-Ghanim.
The film shows multi-layered associations related to tradition, religious themes, aesthetics and graffiti as social critique. Different time levels, histories and places emerge in a train ride that passes through a neighborhood in Naples to Pompeii. Numerous graffiti are found on walls and murals. The poem of the Arab poet emerges piece by piece. The music that begins was developed performatively for the film in a live recording by Heike Rügert ( Musician). In between, further images and film sequences appear, among others of a fairground without visitors, an excerpt from a traditional carnival performance. One of the most striking figures in the play is the Butz, who embodies winter, the plague and death. Hooded, with black robes and the colorful flower decorations, they dance with the noble boys. They embody the spring, they wear a flowered robe with a mirror on the front.
